John Rapp, Dovercourt Recreation Centre, spoke at the Club’s breakfast meeting and updated members on Dovercat’s African cousin, the Africat! While Dovercat embodies a joyful spirit, positive energy and love of fun, people and activity, Africats are unique and special hand-crafted stuffies made in Uganda by women who support children affected by atrocities in Uganda. The Club's annual 2011 Christmas Breakfast was another success! The fellowship, guest speaker Dave Brown (retired journalist), remarks by Rev Ken MacLaren (Ottawa Innercity Ministries), entertainment by a young winner of the Kiwanis Music Festival, and Elke McCumber's lively "fine" collection were excellent. Thanks go to Club member Suliman Chadirji Suliman for his time and effort in capturing these wonderful memories for the Club. Check out the pictures:

at the Westboro Legion's War Memorial. It was a very moving ceremony.

A dozen or so members plus family and friends turned out at Parkdale
United Church to serve about 100 meals to our less fortunate neighbours
at the church’s “In From the Cold” event. This was
followed by a time of food and fellowship at the Newport Restaurant for
those volunteers able to attend.

Faye Beaufort, Anita MacLean and Bill Newman along with David and
Susan Schiller helped out at the “World Trivia Night” held
at Lansdowne Park. Over 1500 participants and 100 volunteers filled
the Cattle Castle to raise over $51,000 for the Champions
for Children Foundation. What a great
time!

“Good morning everyone. I just wanted to let you know that this morning
was the installation of our new board.
Thank you to Carin Goodman (returning secretary), Anita MacLean (returning
treasurer), Marie Francis (returning director and current President
Elect), Rick Mount (returning director representing membership committee)
Ron Heinbuch (returning director representing house committee), new
director Faye Beaufort (representing community service committee)
and new director Kathy Jones (representing communication and public
relations
committee).
Thanks also to our retiring directors, Janet Bowes (community service)
and Gary Ludington (communication and public relations). Your efforts
have helped to make this the healthy club that we are today.
And a special thank you to retiring board member Germaine Barr, last
year's past president and now LG of Division 13. Your guidance and
mentorship meant much to me during my initial year as president.
We are fortunate to have your leadership in the division this year.
Fellow Kiwanians, we have a strong board representing a vibrant club.
Here's to a great year ahead.
President,
David Schiller”
