Youth Program Beneficiaries
August 17, 2011
A $300 contribution was approved by the Board for Walk 4 Justice, a non-profit organization created in January 2008 to raise awareness about the plight of the more than 300 native women who have been murdered or gone missing across Canada. Native women have organized a walk from B.C. to Ottawa to gain more publicity about this issue. Walk 4 Justice supporters consist of family members who have lost their loved ones across the nation. Women and men from all walks of life also join in the efforts to demand justice, closure, equality and accountability.
July 13, 2011
The Board agreed to sponsor two high school students to attend the October 21-23,

is to provide a life-changing experience that inspires young people to achieve
their personal best through service leadership.
The club also approved $600
for the Carlington
Community Health Centre’s “Helmets
for Children” project. This worthwhile project (providing bike helmets)
will enhance the confidence and growth of children.

The Board approved $1000 to the Parkdale
United Church “In From The Cold” annual

and disadvantaged in the community. These funds will be used towards the replacement
of the old automatic dishwasher/sterilizer.
A $400 contribution was approved
for a “Wii Unit” for the Lepage
Manor Community Centre. The Wii will be useful for residents to maintain a
fitness program.
The After School Program at W.E. Gowling School was
granted $900 by the Board. This program runs three days per week with 24
youth receiving

for at-risk youth to learn and develop the social skills necessary for interacting
with peers and others.

November 4, 2010
Club members presented a $1,500 cheque to Alice Donachey, Principal of the
Fisher Park/Summit Alternative Public Schools. The funds will be used for
their Breakfast Club.
Numerous studies have shown that students who receive
a healthy, nutritious start to the day show a marked improvement in academic
achievement. We would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa West for supporting
our Breakfast Club at Fisher Park Summit. The money donated will help us
purchase large ticket items in order to build a Breakfast room where students
can take some responsibility to prepare their breakfast and assist in the
clean up. Since receiving the $ 1,500.00 we have purchased a dishwasher and
had a new double sink put into the room we are designating as our Student
Success Room.
November 2, 2010
Club members presented a $1,500 cheque to W.E. Gowling School this afternoon.
